2016 Reading Challenges { aka wishful thinking }

postheaderreadingchallengesWow, it’s been an incredibly busy, yet enjoyable, start to 2016! This week I have been adjusting to a new quarter at UW, a new job at the library, and getting back into the swing of things with res life!

It’s safe to say I haven’t read very much yet (apart from audio books), but I am hoping for a very bookish 2016 full of reading and blogging! To help make my year even more bookish, I am taking on some reading challenges this year:

Goodreads 2016 Reading Challenge

Screen Shot 2016-01-09 at 2.43.41 PM

I am attempting to read 75 books throughout the year!

This is my most general challenge, but I am hoping to achieve this.

6 Squared Challenge6squaredchallengeicon

This challenge is hosted by Amber over at Bookstacksamber!

I love this challenge because it is INCREDIBLY flexible, and so many of the books I am hoping to read this year fit into this challenge.

Official hashtag: #sixsquaredchallenge

Your challenge is to read six books from each of the six categories, for a total of 36 books by the end of 2016:

  • 6 New Releases (Debut Authors)
  • 6 New Releases (Loved Authors)
  • 6 Books to Start a Series
  • 6 Books to Complete a Series (can be different from above)
  • 6 Book to Movie Adaptations
  • 6 Goodreads Choice Awards Winners or Nominees

Commenting 365 Challenge

This is a challenge created by the lovely Nori over at ReadWriteLove28!

I think that this challenge is an awesome way to be more intentional about supporting other bloggers, through a super tangible way- commenting on 365 blogs this year!

Flights of Fantasy

Reading Challenge 2016flightsoffantasy-2016

This challenge is hosted by Alexa Loves Books & Hello, Chelly!

It simply involves choosing a number of fantasy books and challenging yourself to read that many in 2016! I also love this one because of it’s flexibility, and they are also incorporating giveaways, twitter chats, and a book club! I’m excited to participate, and I am choosing to challenge myself to read 12 fantasy books in 2016.

And that’s all! I am just focusing on those few challenges this year, which will be my first full year blogging and first time participating in reading challenges!

Wish me luck!!

Are you participating in any of these challenges? What challenges are you taking on this year? comment below/link me to your 2016 goals & challenges please!

I’m also doing Nori’s Commenting 365 Challenge, and I’ve been having a blast! I’m finally getting to so many bloggers who I follow on Twitter and seeing all these new-to-me blogs. I’ve also followed about 100 blogs since I’ve started the challenge. 🙂

Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBE Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBEARER TRIALS by @aidenschmaiden in my mailbox at the library 🥳🤩 I’m so excited to dive in. “Welcome to The Sunbearer Trials, where teen semidioses compete in a series of challenges with the highest of stakes, in this electric new Mexican-inspired fantasy from Aiden Thomas, the New York Times bestselling author of Cemetery Boys.

"Only the most powerful and honorable semidioses get chosen. I'm just a Jade. I'm not a real hero."

As each new decade begins, the sun's power must be replenished so that Sol can keep traveling along the sky and keep the evil Obsidian gods at bay. Ten semidioses between the ages of thirteen and eighteen are selected by Sol themself as the most worthy to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. The winner carries light and life to all the temples of Reino del Sol, but the loser has the greatest honor of all - they will be sacrificed to Sol, their body forming the new Sun Stones that will protect the people of Reino del Sol for the next ten years.

Teo, a 17-year-old Jade semidios and the trans son of Quetzal, goddess of birds, has never worried about the Trials... or rather, he's only worried for others. His best friend Niya - daughter of Tierra, the god of earth - is one of the strongest heroes of their generation and is much too likely to be chosen this year. He also can't help but worry (reluctantly, and under protest) for Aurelio, a powerful Gold semidios and Teo's friend-turned-rival who is a shoo-in for the Trials. Teo wouldn't mind taking Aurelio down a notch or two, but a one-in-ten chance of death is a bit too close for Teo's taste.

But then, for the first time in over a century, Sol chooses a semidios who isn't a Gold. In fact, they choose two: Xio, the 13-year-old child of Mala Suerte, god of bad luck, and... Teo. Now they must compete in five mysterious trials, against opponents who are both more powerful and better trained, for fame, glory, and their own survival.”
