5 REASONS TO PRE-ORDER SAVE THE DATE

Have you ever read a Morgan Matson book? If so, you probably don’t even need to read this list, because you already know how great of an author Matson is. I fell in love with SAVE THE DATE, and here is why I think you might, too:

Synopsis:

“Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.

The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.

There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.

There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.

Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.

Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.”

The Grant family is what the story centers itself around. Our main character is Charlie, the youngest sibling, who simply can’t wait to have her siblings back home for the weekend. Linnie, Danny, J.J., Mike, and Charlie are all such interesting and unique characters, and their various personalities and relationships add so much to the story. You won’t want to leave their family once you’ve met them.

Who doesn’t love a wedding? The wedding was such an incredibly fun part of the story. I could read story after story about weddings, even ones where everything goes wrong! It is the perfect event to bring together family, extended family, and friends, and just adds a lot of fun to the story.

I’m just going to be honest, I love Bill. He is so sweet and positive and always steps in to save the day. He is the nephew of the replacement wedding planner, who happens to be adorable and only a year or two older than Charlie. He is supportive and helps keep the whole weekend from becoming a true disaster. Plus, he totally has a thing for Charlie. 😉 Or at least that’s what Danny says.

The chaos of this wedding weekend ends up being so, so fun to read about. Around every corner, something else goes wrong, and it makes it such a fast paced read. The big family and great cast of characters keeps the story interesting, and I never wanted to put it down. You’ll be drawn into the drama and adventure of the weekend as Charlie does her best to patch up situations and make everything go as planned. But as you soon learn, there’s not much she can really do to preserve the perfection she hoped for.

Speaking of not being able to preserve the vision of perfection she had in her head, Charlie grows so much over the course of the handful of days we know her. She learns so much about her family and herself when she is attempting to patch up disasters and make everything fit the perfect idea of the family that her mom creates in Grant Central Station. I loved watching her learn and grow, even over such a short amount of time.

I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long! I’m so glad it lived up to expectations, I really can’t wait to read it. I love complex families and fun settings like a wedding, and character growth. Is it June yet?!

Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBE Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBEARER TRIALS by @aidenschmaiden in my mailbox at the library 🥳🤩 I’m so excited to dive in. “Welcome to The Sunbearer Trials, where teen semidioses compete in a series of challenges with the highest of stakes, in this electric new Mexican-inspired fantasy from Aiden Thomas, the New York Times bestselling author of Cemetery Boys.

"Only the most powerful and honorable semidioses get chosen. I'm just a Jade. I'm not a real hero."

As each new decade begins, the sun's power must be replenished so that Sol can keep traveling along the sky and keep the evil Obsidian gods at bay. Ten semidioses between the ages of thirteen and eighteen are selected by Sol themself as the most worthy to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. The winner carries light and life to all the temples of Reino del Sol, but the loser has the greatest honor of all - they will be sacrificed to Sol, their body forming the new Sun Stones that will protect the people of Reino del Sol for the next ten years.

Teo, a 17-year-old Jade semidios and the trans son of Quetzal, goddess of birds, has never worried about the Trials... or rather, he's only worried for others. His best friend Niya - daughter of Tierra, the god of earth - is one of the strongest heroes of their generation and is much too likely to be chosen this year. He also can't help but worry (reluctantly, and under protest) for Aurelio, a powerful Gold semidios and Teo's friend-turned-rival who is a shoo-in for the Trials. Teo wouldn't mind taking Aurelio down a notch or two, but a one-in-ten chance of death is a bit too close for Teo's taste.

But then, for the first time in over a century, Sol chooses a semidios who isn't a Gold. In fact, they choose two: Xio, the 13-year-old child of Mala Suerte, god of bad luck, and... Teo. Now they must compete in five mysterious trials, against opponents who are both more powerful and better trained, for fame, glory, and their own survival.”
