Interview with myself: Get Up Offa That Slump Blogging Extravaganza Day 1

Slump-Blogging-ExtravaganzaI don’t really know where to start here, guys. February was NOT a good month, for blogging, life, school, work, any of it. I’ve not only been in a not-so-great place for school and work, but also a complete reading and blogging slump!

Who knows what made February so unproductive, besides the fact that winter quarter is always the hardest for me. Either way, I am slowly but surely coming back out. Yay for having a newly self-hosted blog! PLUS super supportive blogger friends, y’all are the best.

(Sadly) I am not alone in my weird blogging slump. The lovely Rachel at Beauty and the Bookshelf has decided to host a three week long challenge called:

GET UP OFFA THAT SLUMP: A BLOGGING EXTRAVAGANZA!

I am so excited to be joining in on this, and I think it will help me get back into the swing of blogging on a regular basis, or at least I hope so! 🙂

an interview with myself-header

so, let’s get started on the first day’s post: An interview with yourself!

Alright, let’s start with the basics: What’s your name and where are you from? How old are you?

Gabriella is my full name, but I go by Gabi! I’m from roughly the bay area in California. Currently, though, I live in Seattle, WA! I’m turning 21 at the end of the month (28th, to be exact)!

So, what brings you to Seattle?

College! I’m a student at the University of Washington. I absolutely love it here, the PNW is such a hidden gem in the US. I study history for my major, and am minoring in education.

History… that’s not a common major. What do you even want to do with that degree?

I am on my way to becoming a librarian! History sets you up really really well for the research and other aspects of being a librarian. Plus, I totally adore the classes. (I take mostly medieval european classes). But my ultimate goal is to be a librarian, who knows which kind. I would happy doing so many different things within the field. Alas, I still have two years of grad school to get my MLIS degree.

Enough about school, that’s not interesting Gabi. What else do you do?

I’m a programming resident advisor! Which means I live on a floor in a residence hall and it’s my job to get to know the residents living on the floor and connect them with other people and other resources on campus! I am also on a staff that plans social events for the entire campus-wide residential life community! I get paid to make a lot of posters and flyers, bulletin boards, talk to people, and plan events!

I also work for the UW Libraries in their admin offices, which is so fun. I work for the best people. 🙂

Favorite things to do in your free time?

When I actually have free time (aka never) my favorite things to do are go concerts, try out new restaurants around Seattle, get coffee with friends (especially at places like Seattle Meowtropolitan, the cat cafe), and read of course haha.

If other people were to name a few things they associate with you, what might they say?

hmmm.. probably things like floral print, cats, books, and harry potter.

Why did you start blogging?

I love books, and talking about books, but had very few people to connect with in my real life about them. I also love the feeling of loving a book, recommending it, and others loving it too. Combine that with utter boredom during my summer internship at Jelly Belly last summer and Let’s Gab About Books was born! yay!

Fun Fact-

I hate chocolate flavored things… like cake and ice cream and frosting. BUT I totally love chocolate itself. Weird, I know.

Favorite book:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. LOVE IT. reread it almost every year. Push it on people whenever I get the chance.

Favorite show on Tv currently?

REIGN. I LOVE IT. so silly, but so much drama and history (albeit inaccurate) and pretty dresses and kissing and I love it so much.

Favorite band?

ARCTIC MONKEYS. Also, Typhoon. Also, this is a really hard question because I love so many.

A book you currently can not shut up about:

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. You can find my review here, where I tell you all the reasons I loved it even as it broke my heart.

page-break-1

Well, that was kind of fun! Kind of awk, but mostly fun. 🙂 I hope you were able to learn a bit more about me!

Hello & Welcome

My name is Gabi and there is nothing I love more than stories and community. I am a library professional at the Pierce County Library System and am working on my MLIS from the UW iSchool (estimated grad 2022). My specialty is queer literature, youth literature, and graphica for youth and adults. Let me help you find your next favorite book!

In my free time, I like to design resources for other bookish folks. I also can be commissioned to do freelance brand and website design and rebranding.

Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBE Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBEARER TRIALS by @aidenschmaiden in my mailbox at the library 🥳🤩 I’m so excited to dive in. “Welcome to The Sunbearer Trials, where teen semidioses compete in a series of challenges with the highest of stakes, in this electric new Mexican-inspired fantasy from Aiden Thomas, the New York Times bestselling author of Cemetery Boys.

"Only the most powerful and honorable semidioses get chosen. I'm just a Jade. I'm not a real hero."

As each new decade begins, the sun's power must be replenished so that Sol can keep traveling along the sky and keep the evil Obsidian gods at bay. Ten semidioses between the ages of thirteen and eighteen are selected by Sol themself as the most worthy to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. The winner carries light and life to all the temples of Reino del Sol, but the loser has the greatest honor of all - they will be sacrificed to Sol, their body forming the new Sun Stones that will protect the people of Reino del Sol for the next ten years.

Teo, a 17-year-old Jade semidios and the trans son of Quetzal, goddess of birds, has never worried about the Trials... or rather, he's only worried for others. His best friend Niya - daughter of Tierra, the god of earth - is one of the strongest heroes of their generation and is much too likely to be chosen this year. He also can't help but worry (reluctantly, and under protest) for Aurelio, a powerful Gold semidios and Teo's friend-turned-rival who is a shoo-in for the Trials. Teo wouldn't mind taking Aurelio down a notch or two, but a one-in-ten chance of death is a bit too close for Teo's taste.

But then, for the first time in over a century, Sol chooses a semidios who isn't a Gold. In fact, they choose two: Xio, the 13-year-old child of Mala Suerte, god of bad luck, and... Teo. Now they must compete in five mysterious trials, against opponents who are both more powerful and better trained, for fame, glory, and their own survival.”
