Let’s Gab About: Tell the Wind and Fire (Mini review)

tellthewind

I had such high hopes for this book. The description sounded so interesting! I have a tendency to adore retellings of classic novels, and this was a retelling of a Tale of Two Cities.

See? I set myself up for a perfect morning reading, waffles and coffee and sunshine on a lazy spring break morning, but what I got was not at all what I was hoping for.

Let’s Gab

I really really wanted to love this, you guys. Honestly, I did. But what I experiences upon reading this story was pretty much just complete confusion and an utter lack of connection to the story.

by page one, the author was just trying to do too much, too soon. I hated the writing from page one, and honestly it was all downhill from there. I tried, really I did, but every time I went to pick this one up again I couldn’t make myself read more than a few pages.

The world-building was all over the place; it wasn’t really explained well and it was just kind of dumped on the reader right away. The first chapter was almost all info-dump and confusion. I tend to like when authors slowly introduce the world and the characters, but what happened here was a lot of telling rather than showing.

I also felt like the author was trying to hard to evoke emotions out of me as a reader, without letting me develop understanding or attachments for the characters. I simply couldn’t make myself care about what was going on, and I didn’t particularly want to.

Overall Opinion:

In the end, I did not finish this story. I had high hopes, and really wanted to love it, but I had a hard time connecting to the characters, the world, and the writing as a whole. I would not recommend this book, especially if you love well-developed worlds and characters. Overall it was too confusing and I had no interest in reading more than a few pages at a time. I found myself turning towards netflix and art to keep me busy instead of reading, because the idea of picking up this book again made me cringe.

Overall Rating: DNF, no stars.

I have heard other people really love her other books! This was the only book from her that I attempted to read. But I hope the others really are better!!

The Lynburn Legacy is one of my very favorite series, with characters you fall in love with, so I definitely recommend giving them a try sometime! The writing is awesome, it’s romantic, and scary, and funny. That’s why I was soooo excited for this book, but I was disappointed too. It felt sloppy and I couldn’t connect to anyone. So disappointing :/

I’m glad I’m not alone! I will have to put those on my TBR and see if she can redeem herself!
