Summer is here, I’m back! (an update + may recap)

summertime

Hi friends, I’m back!

Wow has it been awhile since I’ve sat down to write a blog post. Lately, all I have had time to do is write paper after paper, and read research article after research article. Spring quarter was an incredibly bad quarter in terms of family problems, and that made it really hard to focus on school, let alone blogging.

Nevertheless, I have turned in the last of my final papers and am now officially DONE with spring quarter! I am so so so so so thankful that it is summer, and I can’t wait to get back into blogging!

This is going to be a great bookish summer, and I have so many books on my immediate TBR!

A Court of Mist and Fury: 4.5 out of 5 stars. Full review to come! It was a wild ride, that is for sure.

Kindred Spirits: 5 out of 5 stars. This short story was simply adorable. Star Wars and cute boys, two of my favorite things.

The Crown: 3.5 out of 5 stars. Meh. It was seriously so mediocre. I felt like this book was trying to rush the selection, it was complete insta-love, and I didn’t understand the choices the characters were making. It was incredibly forced. Just, ugh. Worst book of the series so far.

A Gathering of Shadows: 5 out of 5 stars. This was a fantastic sequel. The beginning was very slow, especially after such an awesome ending like the one at the end of ADSOM. I felt myself waiting and waiting for SOMETHING to happen, but once we were about half way through it got SO GOOD. In the end it was a really satisfying book!

IMG_5083A Court of Mist and Fury launch party at University Bookstore:
This event was sold out, and so so fun! I loved getting a chance to meet Sarah Maas, and hearing her talk about her books. She is seriously hilarious!

IMG_5098Morgan Matson, Siobhan Vivian, and Suzanne Young at U Bookstore Bellevue: WOW was this is fun event! It was fairly small since it was at Bellevue, but it was fantastic. I have been wanting to meet Morgan for 6 years, and we’ve been talking online for just as long! It was so great to meet her. Siobhan was adorable and hilarious, and I picked up The Last Boy and Girl in the World because she read a scene of it and it was so good! Suzanne was also lovely, but I wasn’t really interesting in her books.

Summer of Sloane launch party and U Bookstore:

The last book event I attended this month was Er in L. Schneider’s Summer of Sloane launch party! It was so fun, and had the cutest snacks! She was so sweet, and gave out gift bags for us for asking questions. I ADORED her book, you should all check it out. <3

TBRJUNE

This Savage Song (ARC): I love Victoria’s writing SO MUCH. I have had this book sitting on my shelf for a month and I haven’t let myself read it, since the only way I’ve had time to read has been through audiobooks. Now that school is done, I am so read to read this one!

My Lady Jane (ARC): I have been able to read ~100 pages of this so far, and I am LOVING IT. It’s so cute and funny and historical, it’s the greatest. I can’t wait to finish it!

The Unexpected Everything: Morgan writes my favorite summer reads, so it’s only fitting to read this one this June!

The Crown’s Game (ARC): I also have had this one sitting around waiting to be read for a week or two, and I am so happy to finally have time to read it!

*This is going to be a month of catching up on ARCs and such, finally!!

Now I want to know how you have been, friends! It has been far too long since I have chatted with you all, and I have missed you! What have you all been up to? ♥

I’m glad you’re back! I’ve been pretty absent blog-wise too, but I’m hoping to get back into it. I know you said you’re not interested in Suzanne Young’s books, but I really think you should give the Program a try. It’s super underrated, but it’s a crazy and awesome series. It’s so cool that you got to go to so many events recently! And I’m jealous you have a My Lady Jane ARC because I’ve been wanting to read that forever but will have to wait for the library haha.

You got to attend so many fun events!!! That’s really awesome! I want to read Summer of Sloane a lot. I just started ACOMAF and I know I’m in for a roller coaster haha. Isn’t My Lady Jane great?! Can’t wait to read The Unexpected Everything too 🙂

Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBE Came back from Disneyland to my hold for THE SUNBEARER TRIALS by @aidenschmaiden in my mailbox at the library 🥳🤩 I’m so excited to dive in. “Welcome to The Sunbearer Trials, where teen semidioses compete in a series of challenges with the highest of stakes, in this electric new Mexican-inspired fantasy from Aiden Thomas, the New York Times bestselling author of Cemetery Boys.

"Only the most powerful and honorable semidioses get chosen. I'm just a Jade. I'm not a real hero."

As each new decade begins, the sun's power must be replenished so that Sol can keep traveling along the sky and keep the evil Obsidian gods at bay. Ten semidioses between the ages of thirteen and eighteen are selected by Sol themself as the most worthy to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. The winner carries light and life to all the temples of Reino del Sol, but the loser has the greatest honor of all - they will be sacrificed to Sol, their body forming the new Sun Stones that will protect the people of Reino del Sol for the next ten years.

Teo, a 17-year-old Jade semidios and the trans son of Quetzal, goddess of birds, has never worried about the Trials... or rather, he's only worried for others. His best friend Niya - daughter of Tierra, the god of earth - is one of the strongest heroes of their generation and is much too likely to be chosen this year. He also can't help but worry (reluctantly, and under protest) for Aurelio, a powerful Gold semidios and Teo's friend-turned-rival who is a shoo-in for the Trials. Teo wouldn't mind taking Aurelio down a notch or two, but a one-in-ten chance of death is a bit too close for Teo's taste.

But then, for the first time in over a century, Sol chooses a semidios who isn't a Gold. In fact, they choose two: Xio, the 13-year-old child of Mala Suerte, god of bad luck, and... Teo. Now they must compete in five mysterious trials, against opponents who are both more powerful and better trained, for fame, glory, and their own survival.”
